Forget how thoroughly Arkansas was beaten last week at Alabama. Put that out of your mind for a bit.
Focus instead on the big picture of Razorback football. Seems like the program is in pretty good shape overall since Bobby Petrino took over in 2008, right? Heck, Arkansas made the Sugar Bowl last year and Petrino is now among the Top 10 highest-paid coaches in college football.
Sure, there’s room for improvement, but most fans and observers of the program would agree things are going well. But how much better off is the program than before Petrino took over?
That’s the question Kevin Hog examines in a thought-provoking post on ArkansasExpats.com. He looks at the first 42 games of the Petrino era versus the final 42 games of the Houston Nutt era.
Trust me, 42 Games On Either Side Of December 2007, is worth a read. Here’s a sampling:
WINS: Nutt had 24 wins and 18 losses in his last 42 games. Petrino is at 26 wins and 16 losses this week. Stretching it this far back includes part of Nutt's losing season in 2004 and his entire losing season of 2005. The 42-game mark for Petrino includes his losing season of 2008.
RANKED TEAMS: Nutt played 22 ranked teams during that span. Petrino has played 16 ranked teams.
Give it a read. Then let us know: does 42 Games On Either Side Of December 2007 change your thoughts on where the program is now? Why or why not?

It’s time for a Reality Check. Hog Blogger thinks folks got “totally and unreasonably carried away about the potential of this year’s team,” BUT … There’s no reason for folks to get all negative about the program.”
•How about a Texas A&M Preview?

•There’s a chance Fayetteville could only host two SEC games, every other year, if the Arkansas-A&M series stays in Dallas. Totally reasonable for Sharp Tusk to wonder Should the Arkansas and Texas A&M Series Remain in Dallas?
