NEW ORLEANS — UALR sophomore forward, Will Neighbour, was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Neighbour led the Trojans to a 2-1 record last week as UALR improved to 2-0 in league play and 5-10 overall on the season.
Neighbour averaged team highs of 18.3 points and 8.0 rebounds to lead UALR to a 2-1 record, including a 2-0 start in league play with road wins at North Texas and Denver. The 6-10 forward totaled a season-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds at Illinois State off an 8-of-15 effort from the field.
He then recorded his second double-double of the year in the win at NT, totaling 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to help UALR to its first road win of the season. The Grayshott, England-native then poured in a game-high 17 points and added six rebounds to lead UALR to past Denver at Magness Arena.
Neighbour shot 45.9 percent from the field (6-of-11 from three-point range) and 78.9 percent at the foul line over UALR’s three games, while totaling four steals and a team-high five blocks.
The Trojans will take on No. 3 Kentucky in Louisville, Ky. on Tuedsay before hosting Florida Atlantic on Saturday.
