Twelve Arkansas college seniors, including University of Central Arkansas quarterback Nathan Dick and Arkansas Razorback defensive standouts Tramain Thomas and Jerico Nelson, are part of the South roster in the first Players All-Star Classic, scheduled for War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Officials for the game released the list of 112 participants — 56 per team — on Monday. The players will arrive next Monday and begin workouts in front of NFL and other professional league scouts in preparation for the all-star game, which kicks off Feb. 4 at 3 p.m.
Joining Thomas and Nelson from Arkansas is offensive tackle Grant Freeman. Arkansas State will be represented by defensive end Brandon Joiner, safety Kelcie McCray, fullback Jermaine Robertson and defensive tackle Dorvus Woods. UAPB running back Adrian Moore, a White Hall product who started his playing career at Oklahoma State, is also on the South roster, along with Ouachita Baptist’s Phillip Supernaw and Henderson State’s Antonio Leak and deep snapper Sean McGrath.
Along with the three Razorback players, nine other former Southeastern Conference stars will be participating, including All-SEC linebacker Danny Trevathan of Kentucky, as well as the Wildcats’ punter, Ryan Tydlacka. National runner-up LSU will be represented by defensive back Ron Brooks and defensive end Kendrick Adams. Mississippi running back Brandon Bolden make the South squad, along with Mississippi State’s standout safety Charles Mitchell and offensive lineman James Carmon and South Carolina offensive lineman Kyle Nunn. Vanderbilt defensive end Tim Fugger also was selected for the South squad.
Aaron Corp, who began his career at Southern Cal before transferring to Richmond, will join UCA’s Dick as a South quarterback.
Atlantic Coach Conference champion Clemson is represented by four players on the South team, as is ACC runner-up Virginia Tech.
Kurt Schottenheimer, who spent 22 yards in the NFL coaching ranks, will coach the South team, and Martin Bayless, with 25 years as a player and coach in the NFL and other leagues, will head up the North squad.
Organizers of the Little Rock event previously worked with the Texas vs. The Nation game, held last year in San Antonio after moving from El Paso, and postponed this year as the game moves to a permanent site in Allen, Texas.
Organizers signed a contract with the stadium to hold the Players Classic in Little Rock for at least the next three years. The Hilton Little Rock on South University Avenue is the home base for the event.
Tickets for the Feb. 4 game are $15 and are available at the War Memorial Stadium ticket office.
The game will be televised live by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast and by Cox Sports Television.
