South Alabama Topples Arkansas State Red Wolves 74-57

MOBILE, Ala. — Mychal Ammons scored a career-high 25 points to lead South Alabama to a 74-57 victory over Arkansas State Thursday night in Sun Belt Conference play.

Ammons, who was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine, led the Jaguars (13-10, 5-7) to their largest margin of victory in a Sun Belt game this season.

South Alabama shot a season-high 53.8 percent. The Jaguars, who also got 14 points and eight rebounds from Augustine Rubit, went on a 19-7 run in the first half to lead 35-27 at the break.

Ed Townsel led Arkansas State (10-16, 4-7) with 17 points. Trey Finn scored 11, including two 3-pointers.

South Alabama, which outscored the Red Wolves 39-30 in the second half, had the edge in 3-point shooting. The Jaguars hit 28 of 52 3-point attempts (53.8 percent). Arkansas State was 22 of 51 for 43.1 percent.
