Arkansas State is in the market for a new defensive coordaintor.

Keith Patterson is leaving to take a job at West Virginia. Patterson was on the job with the Red Wolves a little more than a month.

“We appreciate everything Coach Patterson did for us while he was here and wish him the best,” Red Wolves Coach Gus Malzahn.  “We have already started a search to fill the open position on our coaching staff as we move forward.”

Malzahn hired Patterson from Pitt on Jan. 4. Here's what he had to say about him at the time:

"He does a great job of mixing up, keeping the odd front. He’ll bring different blitzes. In today’s game, you’ve got to have a little bit of an odd front. He’s the guy that everybody goes to to visit with. High school guys, even college guys. We’re getting a real good one, one of the best in the business. I’m tickled to death to be able to coach with him."

Arkansas State opens spring practice on March 12.
