The University of Arkansas joined the Southeastern Conference 20 years ago. Yesterday, the Razorback Indoor Track team won its 18th SEC title.
It almost doesn't seem fair, does it?
Here's more from the UA's website:
The top-ranked University of Arkansas men's track and field team won the 2012 Southeastern Conference title Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Ky. On the final day of competition, the Razorbacks collected four SEC event titles and finished the weekend with 151 points...
Arkansas' event titles came from Marek Niit in the 200 meters, Patrick Rono in the mile, Andrew Irwin in the pole vault and the distance-medley relay. As a program, the Razorbacks now have 94 SEC event titles. Combining all three aspects of the program-cross country, indoor and outdoor-Arkansas has 52 SEC team titles and 91 conference team titles, dating back to its days in the Southwest Conference.
For more proof that time is marching along at a steady clip (or at a steady run, to be more appropriate,) this indoor title is Chris Bucknam's third as the program's track-and-field coach. To think some wondered if the dynasty could keep its legs after John McDonnell's departure.
Highlights of the meet will be telecast on a special 90-minute program to be shown on ESPNU March 11 at 4 p.m. For more details on running times and athletes, click here.
