Harding sophomore first baseman Matt Calhoun has been named the GAC Baseball Player of the Week after recording four extra base hits and eight runs batted in during a 4-1 week for the nationally-ranked No. 17 Bisons (14-3), including two wins over Arkansas-Monticello to start the conference portion of the 2012 schedule.

The Searcy native went 9-for-17 at the plate throughout the week (.529 average) with two doubles, one triple, one homerun, eight runs batted in and three runs scored. He added three walks for a weekly .600 on-base percentage.

In a double-header sweep of North Alabama at home last Tuesday, both 2-1 victories, Calhoun went 1-for-4 combined, but had key at bats in each win. In the first half of the twin bill, he moved the eventual winning run to third base on a groundout, and followed that with a game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap.

Calhoun saved the majority of his offensive numbers for a 2-1 series win over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday and Sunday. He went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and a homerun for four RBI in a 12-9 win to start the series on Saturday. Later in the day, he added three more RBI with a bases-clearing triple in a 7-6 win. On Sunday, Calhoun went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in an 8-7 loss.
