Darren McFadden's hologram chain is worth $90,000 and is 86 carats.

Darren McFadden sure loves the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Check out his latest way of showing Arkansas pride, a hologram necklace worth about $90,000.

Depending on how you hold the 86-carat diamond/sapphire pendant, it’s either a No. 20 (McFadden’s number with the Oakland Raiders) or the Arkansas Razorback logo.

Apparently the hologram necklaces are all the rage right now among folks who can afford 86-carat hologram necklaces at $90,000 a pop.

“Since they’re pieces of art they take about six to eight weeks to make,” a representative of the Beaudry boutique in Beverley Hills recently told Stilleto Jill, who runs a web site that bills itself as “ESPN Meets Sex And The City.” (Did I really just type that? Sadly, yes).

McFadden, who is entering his fifth season in the NFL, made nearly $10 million his first two years in the league. That’s enough for 100 hologram chains with a few bucks to spare.

P.S. This all reminds me of a chat I had with Ronnie Brewer a few years back. He said the temptation to outdo the guys around him materially was something he got caught up in initially upon making the NBA.

“I saw everybody doing it and I thought that’s how I needed to be,” Brewer said. “I have it now and I’m going to wear it because I bought it, but there are days I regret that. I’m not going to want to wear this when I’m 35 or 40.

“You want your money to grow. It doesn’t make sense to put it around your neck or to drive it around.”
