Little Rock Catholic football coach David Estes and former Rocket Chase Miller are among the people putting together a special event to honor a fallen friend: former Rocket and Arkansas Razorback tight end Garrett Uekman.
The Garrett Uekman Foundation will be the beneficiary of a 7-on-7 tournament planned in July for War Memorial Stadium. Uekman, a redshirt freshman for the Razorbacks last fall, died the day after the Mississippi State game of an previously undiagnosed heart ailment.
All teams will advance from July 13th bracket play into pool play starting at 8 a.m. July 14.
Entry fee is $250 per team. The fee will take care of a four-game guarantee, T-shirts for all players, water and drinks and lunch for coaches and players during Saturday’s pool play.

CENTRAL PLAYERS STAND OUT AT COMBINE: Local high school football fans waiting for Little Rock Central to return to the powerhouse level it reached 2003-05 might be happy to note that the talent level is on the upswing for Scooter Register’s program, if results from a resent Alabama football camp are any indication.
Leotis Harris Jr., a former Tiger and a local youth football supporter through AAU and other organizations, reports that five Tigers were invited to the NIKE Sparq Combine in Mobile, along with 1,300 other participants.
Timothy Quickel, a rising junior linebacker, rated 12th overall at the camp and receives a No. 1 ranking among his class of 2014.
Running back Logan Moragne, a senior this fall, was ranked 56th overall, and fellow senior running back Malcolm Robinson was rated 67th overall.
Wide receiver Reggie Harris, also in the 2013 class, placed 220th overall and Byron Miller, a senior-to-be defensive back, was 431st overall out of the 1,300-plus campers.
