UCA will hold its first major spring scrimmage at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.

Coach Clint Conque said the coaching staff will be looking for “efficiency” from the Bears on Saturday.

“We want to see execution and consistency," said Conque, who is heading into his 13th season at UCA. “Our goals are to be more efficient in the run game and to defend the run better.

“We need to identify leadership on both offense and defense. And we need to become a more physical football team. That’s something we learned from our postseason experience in the Division I playoffs last season. You have to play fast and physical.

“We hope to take a major step on Saturday.’

The scrimmage will feature Southland Conference officials and is expected to include 105-120 plays. The scrimmage is free and open to the public.

UCA's annual Purple/Gray Game is set for Friday, April 13 at 6 p.m.
