Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino was “resting comfortably” less than 24 hours after a motorcycle wreck left him with multiple injuries.

Athletic Director Jeff Long confirmed he visited with Petrino and the coach’s wife, Becky, late Monday afternoon. Petrino was hospitalized following an accident about 23 miles outside of Fayetteville near the Crosses community.

“Coach Petrino is resting comfortably and is encouraged by the progress of his recovery,” Long said through a university release.

Petrino, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, had not been released from the hospital as of Monday night. He was hopeful that he could return to practice as soon as possible and expressed that desire to others.

Sources say Petrino, 51, suffered broken ribs and an assortment of cuts and bruises in the accident, which occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

“I know that [Petrino] is very much looking forward to returning to spring practice at the earliest opportunity,” Long said. “In the course of our visit, the Petrinos expressed their appreciation for all the thoughts and well wishes that have come in from all over the country.”

Arkansas did not practice on Monday, but players held regularly scheduled meetings in conjunction with spring practice. The Razorbacks are scheduled to return to Razorback Stadium at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday for practice.
