Michael Dyer and Kane Whitehurst picked a good month to find trouble.
Whitehurst was caught and released by police on drug charges the very same day Bobby Petrino drove headfirst into that gust of wind. Haven't heard much from interim head coach Taver Johnson about Whitehurst's status with the team, but we understand he's been pretty busy this week.
Michael Dyer (or "Mike" as the Auburn press calls him) was absent from practice yesterday at Arkansas State. The Little Rock native instead sat on the witness stand in an Alabama courthouse, testifying that a gun he owned was used in an armed robbery. Dyer told the judge that he and some of his buddies were hanging out, drinking a little beer and smoking some "spice" (synthetic marijuana) when the robbery was suggested. Dyer says he tried to talk them out of it, but nonetheless, someone got his gun anyway.
(Our roommates used to suggest going out for a pizza, but this was back in the 90s when the stuff we had was still organic).
The synthetic drug Dyer was using was legal to buy in the state of Alabama at the time, and he has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the robbery. Still, it's not the most flattering portrait of the running back.
In a released statement from ASU, Gus Malzahn states that he still has confidence in Dyer.
