Arkansas alum John Daly wants his buddy John Gruden to take the Arkansas football job.

This story is from the archives of ArkansasSports360.com.

Somewhere along the way it became law that ESPN analyst Jon Gruden get mentioned for any coaching vacancy that pops up. NFL. College. Pop Warner.

We’re not sure if it’s a recent amendment to the Constitution or maybe part of the BCS formula, but it’s a rule that reads something like this:

“Jon Gruden must get mentioned as a candidate for any job. Ever.”

So it’s only natural that Gruden’s name be mentioned for the vacancy created by the firing of Bobby Petrino. What makes Gruden’s name circulating worth even mentioning is where the mention is coming from.

Gruden’s friend John Daly is among the latest to push the former NFL coach. Daly took his campaign to Twitter over the weekend.

“Been trying to help, all is in @JeffLongUA hands & I’ve passed all info to him–if that is the route they want to go I think that Gruden would be the perfect fit! Razorback fans would welcome Gruden with open arms! I know it’s a long shot but I live for Arkansas!”

OK. So we now have the obligatory John Gruden mention.

Why aren’t we hearing more about Jimmy Johnson?
