Arkansas continues to embrace and push the use of social media.

This time it comes in the form of a Twitter hashtag #GOHOGS painted on Frank Broyles Field. Arkansas joins Mississippi State (2011 Egg Bowl) and Michigan (spring game) as schools that have painted a hashtag on the field.

Here’s more from UA Athletic Director Jeff Long (@JeffLongUA), himself a regular Twitter user:

“The hashtag on the field is just another example of our commitment to engaging our fans with the Razorbacks through social media. It is a simple way for our fans to show their support for our team and the student-athletes representing the University of Arkansas. We have one of the largest social media followings in the country among intercollegiate athletic programs. We will continue to work on building our fan followings on Twitter, Facebook and other outlets as a way to further connect with our fans.”

Fans will see #GOHOGS painted at the 25-yard line on the southeast and northwest sides of the field. Kickoff for the Red-White game is set for 2 p.m.

Why no #WPS (woo pig sooie)? Apparently that’s the tag used by the women’s professional soccer league.

I can't help but wonder if the hashtag makes its way onto the field if Bobby Petrino was still coach. He once confused Facebook for "Facemask" at SEC Media Days.
