Arkansas’ search for a football coach could be wrapping up soon.

Athletic Director Jeff Long said Saturday during the Red-White game that a decision on the replacement for Bobby Petrino would likely come in days.

Long fired Bobby Petrino on April 10. Options to replace Petrino include choosing an in-house interim, finding a temporary replacement from outside the program or a long-term solution.

"I hope to make a decision in days, and it won’t be weeks before we have a decision," Long said.

Because of the timing of the opening, finding a coach to take over now is viewed as the most challenging option. Players and coaches have indicated they would prefer not to have an overhaul of the staff and system.

Long told CBSSports.com that bringing in a coach who would change the systems in place is not an idea he favors at this time. He also offered praise to reporters in the pressbox for the current players and coaches and how they handled of the last two weeks.

"It’s remarkable to see the way they’ve focused," Long said. "To finish spring practice without their head coach is a tribute to them and the assistant coaches on the staff."

Current Razorback assistants will be on the road recruiting beginning Monday. Offensive coordinator Paul Petrino said the staff will continue to put its full efforts into the job, regardless of when or what decision is made.

“You just approach it like I approached the last two weeks,” Petrino said. “You do your best, you know? Work as hard as you can, get as many guys as you can fired up about the program. ... You just go out and do your job, do it the best you can.”
