Arkansas pitcher Ryne Stanek will represent the United States as part of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team for a second consecutive year.

“It’s an honor to be selected to play for the USA Collegiate National Team,” Stanek said. “Anytime you put the Team USA uniform on, it’s a special occasion. I’m excited to be able to play with and against some of the best collegiate players in the world.”

Stanek is the 11th Arkansas player to be selected for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Last summer, the Razorbacks were well represented on the team as DJ Baxendale, Dominic Ficociello and Matt Reynolds were part of the 22-man roster. Stanek was also with the team for a brief time as an alternate. Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn served as an assistant coach for the team last summer.

“Ryne is very deserving of being selected for the Collegiate National Team,” Coach Van Horn said. “He has been one of our top pitchers throughout the season. His experience with the Collegiate National Team last summer helped propel him to the success he’s enjoying this year and being able to play for Team USA this summer should continue his progression as a baseball player.”

A sophomore right-handed pitcher from Overland Park, Kan., Stanek has been one of the top pitchers in the Southeastern Conference and in the country in 2012. A third-team preseason All-American by Baseball America, Stanek has posted a 6-2 record with a 2.30 ERA in 10 starts this season. He ranks tied for third in the SEC in wins and his ERA is the fifth-lowest in the conference. Stanek has struck out 57 batters in 58.2 innings and is holding opposing hitters to a .238 batting average. Stanek is ninth in the SEC in innings pitched and is tied for eighth in strikeouts. Of his 10starts, Stanek has turned in seven quality starts, throwing six or more innings and allowing three or fewer earned runs.

Last summer with Team USA, Stanek pitched in two games, including one start, and had a 1-0 record with a 1.00 ERA. In nine innings of work, Stanek struck out 12 and gave up just one run. Stanek started against the USA U18 National Team and threw 6.1 shutout innings, scattering eight hits and striking out six.

In his Razorback career, Stanek has pitched in 25 games, including 22 starts, and has a 10-4 record with a 3.15 ERA. He has thrown 122.2 innings pitched, giving up just 100 hits and striking out 98 batters.

Stanek will be part of Team USA’s 22-man roster, which will convene on June 23, 2012. The highlight of the team’s schedule this summer is a five-game series against Cuba, scheduled for July 5-9. The series, which will take place at Latin American Stadium in Havana, will mark the first meeting between the U.S. and Cuba Collegiate National Teams since 1996. Following the series against Cuba, the team will travel to Haarlem, the Netherlands for the Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week, which will be held July 14-22.
