Wide receiver Quinta Funderburk has been granted a scholarship release from Arkansas.

Coach John L. Smith confirmed that Funderburk, who redshirted last season, is no longer with the program.

Funderburk enrolled at Arkansas in January 2011, but the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Virginia native missed multiple spring practices last year and was given time off during the summer while dealing with homesickness.

When Funderburk disappeared from practices last spring his high school coach said the four-star prospect was “done with football.” Shortly after Richard Morgan told the Virginian-Pilot  that Funderburk “didn’t want to play football anymore,” the receiver returned to Fayetteville to complete the 2011 spring session.

Funderburk entered the spring third on the depth chart behind Javontee Herndon and Keante Minor at one of the receiver spots. He had one catch for seven yards in the Red-White game and never delivered on the promise he displayed in catching 64 passes for 1,412 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.
