Bolivar (Mo.) quarterback Rafe Peavey is one of Arkansas' top recruiting targets for the Class of 2014 and he has strong ties to the Razorbacks.
Peavey, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds and 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash, attended Arkansas' Red-White game April 21. His father is a former graduate assistant at Arkansas while his mother was a walk-on with the track team.
Peavey liked what he saw when he attended Arkansas' spring game.
“It was pretty exciting,” Peavey said. “The facilities are off the chart. The new complex they are building is pretty cool.”
However, Peavey was familiar with most things at Arkansas even before his most recent visit. In addition to hearing stories about Arkansas from his parents, Peavey has been to Fayetteville many times.
“I have been coming to camps there since I was in the fourth grade when Coach [Houston] Nutt was there,” Peavey said. “My family has a connection to Arkansas. My dad was a GA for Jack Crowe.”
Peavey has offers from Arkansas, UCLA, Connecticut and Ole Miss. Schools that may be close to offering are Iowa, Penn State, LSU, Illinois, Wisconsin and Tulsa.
“I'm hearing from LSU a little,” Peavey said. “I don't have any leaders right now. It's all just happening now.”
Peavey is busy preparing for his junior season, but also reflected back on 2011.
“I thought it went pretty good,” Peavey said. “We had a lot of seniors that graduated. We will have four starters back on both offense and defense this fall so we will be a young team.”
As far as his strengths at quarterback, Peavey had a simple answer to that question.
“I win games,” Peavey said. “I have good arm strength and I'm pretty mobile. I'm a drop-back passer, but I can run when I need to or the protection breaks down.”
