Tyler Wilson’s development as a quarterback has included hours of film study of how NFL greats play the position. Wilson has also found himself noting things as simple as how the pros carry themselves walking into a room.

Wilson got the chance for in-person viewing last summer working as a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy. He has the opportunity to go back in July, depending on his schedule.

Attending gives Wilson a chance to interact with current and former NFL quarterbacks like Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, plus others who are heavily involved in the game. It’s a great learning experience beyond X's and O's, Wilson said.

“You watch how they walk in a room. What kind of presence they have,” Wilson said. “If any of that stuff can rub off on me, give me a chance to bring it back here, it gives me a chance to be successful. That’s a good opportunity.”

Wilson took advantage of the opportunity last summer and would like to go back if possible. He had yet to compare dates with what he might already have scheduled July 12-15. Typically, the top college quarterbacks in the country are extended an invite from the Manning family, which began the academy 17 years ago.

Former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett received an invite for the camp in 2010. He was unable to attend because of a scheduling conflict involving classes and rehab for an offseason foot injury.

A return trip to the academy, held in Thibodaux, La., at Nichols State, would give Wilson additional time to interact with the Manning family and others like ESPN analyst and "QB Camp" host Jon Gruden, the former NFL coach.

“It’s a Who’s Who of football,” Wilson said. “You’re there building relationships and making connections. That’s a huge plus. Anytime you’re around those guys and used to them, get over any feeling of being star struck, it’s good.”

Wilson figures to be among the "Who's Who" in college football this season. Wilson returns as the only first-team All-SEC quarterback in Razorback history. Arkansas won 11 games in 2011 with Wilson at quarterback. He threw for 3,683 yards and 24 touchdowns with six interceptions.

Pro scouts like Wilson and at least one outlet has already projected him as the No. 1 overall pick for the 2013 NFL Draft. Manning Academy counselor alumni include former No. 1 NFL Draft picks Andrew Luck (2012), Sam Bradford (2010) and Matt Stafford (2009).
