Everything about the new video board in Razorback Stadium is big, including the price tag.

Arkansas will spend $4.6 million ($4,633,194.12 to be exact) to install a new HD big screen in the north end zone. What they’ll get for the money is a board that measures 167 feet wide and 38 feet tall, nearly double the display space currently in the stadium.

LSI, the company responsible for the original “SMARTVISION” board in 2000, will again handle the manufacture and installation. Also included will be new stadium signs and game/play clocks in both ends of the stadium.

Athletic Director Jeff Long said the video board will help improve game days in Fayetteville.

“The video board plays such an instrumental role in creating an exciting game day atmosphere and helping create a home field advantage,” Long said. “This new larger board utilizes some of the latest technology and will allow us to introduce new interactive features. The board will greatly enhance the game day experience for our fans.”

(Just imagine the in-game weather forecasts on that thing.)

A crew was working to remove the old video board Monday night. It is not immediately known what the UA will do with the old screens.

Arkansas spent an estimaged $6.5 million on the original big screen. Extra expenses were incurred building a structure that could hold the video board.
