Smith Comments To ESPN Seem To Open Door For Marquel Wade Return To Razorbacks

Arkansas Coach John L. Smith said last month that tight end Andrew Peterson and wide receivers Marquel Wade and Maudrecus Humphrey don’t have lockers and aren’t enrolled in school following their arrests for a string of dorm room burglaries. Smith told reporters he didn’t know if they would be allowed to return to the team.

But it now sounds like the door is open for the return of at least one of the three.

Wade was mentioned by Smith in an ESPN.com interview as a potential factor this season. Wade, the team’s top punt return option and a starting wide receiver, was charged with one count of residential burglary. Peterson and Humphrey are facing nine counts each.

Here are Smith’s comments, which came during a breakdown of the Razorbacks’ special teams entering 2012:

“You know, you look there and, you know, Marquel Wade becomes a factor that’s kind of a question mark. Hopefully we can get that factor realized, get him back on the field. That can help as far as our special teams goes.”
