Signal Mountain (Tenn.) Class of 2015 tight end Harrison Moon was one of the top campers at Arkansas this weekend.
Moon, 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, is busy this summer trying to get his name out there among the recruiters. It appears he did a good job of that at Arkansas.
“The camp was great,” Moon said. “There was a lot of good athletes. Arkansas was one of the best teams in the nation. It's great to see where you stand against the best athletes and get to work with them.”
Moon worked with Arkansas tight ends coach Joseph Henry. Moon left the camp feeling he had learned some things and gotten better fundamentally.
“We did a lot of route running and stuff,” Moon said. “So, I really took away from the route running. You've got to run sharp, crisp routes and have soft hands. That's really going to help me.”
Moon had just camped at Oklahoma and his next stop will be Vanderbilt this weekend.
“Honestly, I did a little better at the OU camp I think,” Moon said. “I didn't do bad here, but I didn't play to the best of my ability. I think I could have done a little better.”
While Moon will just be a high school sophomore this fall, he feels that with coaches offering scholarships earlier each year this is the way to let them know about him.
“You've got to start early on this recruiting process now,” Moon said. “If you want to go to a big Division I you have to start now. I'm pretty confident I'm getting exposure and stuff. I don't know what the coaches think of me, but I think I'm performing well.”
For a sophomore tight end, Moon has the size that makes the coaches want to take a long look at him.
“It kind of helps when you're catching the ball you have another extension on it,” Moon said. “The defensive guy can be right on your back, but then you snag the ball because of your height. When pass blocking, you can extend your arms and it's a lot harder for the defensive line to get back there. If you can use your body you really have an advantage.”
At Signal Mountain, Moon said he plays tight end and will play some defensive end.
