Downsized YMCA Gets Help

A one-year agreement has the Hot Springs Family YMCA now providing the management for the YMCA of Metropolitan Little Rock. The new management contract began June 1 and comes after the recent downsizing of the Little Rock Y, which included closing the Heflin Branch YMCA in North Little Rock in March 2011 and the Westside Y on Sam Peck Road in December.

With the sale of the North Little Rock location, Paul Henry, the Little Rock YMCA's board president, said the Y "became debt free." And with the Westside Y property under contract to be sold, the Little Rock Y is positioned well for the future and can benefit from the guidance of the Hot Springs Family YMCA, he said.

The asking price of the Westside Y property on Sam Peck Road was $1.3 million, broker Todd Rice of Colliers International said. He declined to disclose the terms of the contract.

"With the recent downsize of the Little Rock Y association it became evident that we still needed strong professional leadership to maintain the current programs offered," Henry said in a news release.

"Our board is excited about the Y future in Little Rock. Keep watching us. We are here to stay," Henry said.
