Murphy Oil Elects Claiborne Deming Chairman

Murphy Oil Corp. of El Dorado announces the appointment of Claiborne P. Deming as chairman of its board of directors.

Murphy Oil Corp. of El Dorado on Wednesday announced the appointment of Claiborne P. Deming as chairman of its board of directors.

Deming will become chairman effective May 1, and succeeds William C. Nolan Jr., who is retiring as chairman but will remain on the board.

Deming has been a director since 1993 and was president and CEO of Murphy from 1994 to 2008. He has chaired the board's executive committee since 2009.

Deming is the nephew of Charles Murphy Jr., who established the company.
Outside of Murphy, Deming also served on the board of Entergy Corp. from 2002 to 2006. He was member of the Arkansas State Board of Education from 1999 to 2002.

He has served in various capacities on several other boards and councils, and received a gold medal for distinguished achievement from the American Petroleum Institute this year.
