Arkansas-based garden guru P. Allen Smith is among celebrities and other media brands that will program a channel of original content on YouTube, the massive online video website owned by Google Inc.

Smith's channel, eHow Home, is one of nearly 100 YouTube will begin rolling out next month, an effort to generate about 25 hours of new, original programming per day. Other brands adding channels include the Wall Street Journal, Slate, Pitchfork TV and SB Nation, a national network of sports blogs.

Smith's channel will begin streaming in January. It will feature segments on home and garden tips filmed at his 567-acre Moss Mountain Farm, 20 minutes northwest of Pinnacle Mountain in central Arkansas.

Smith, an author and contributor to NBC's "The Today Show" and "The Weather Channel," already hosts programs on public television, including "P. Allen Smith's Garden Home" and "P. Allen Smith's Garden to Table." He also hosts the syndicated 30-minute show "P. Allen Smith Gardens."

"We can't wait to begin reaching an even broader audience through the eHow Home YouTube Channel," Smith said in a news release. "It is extremely exciting to be joining the caliber of content providers that Google has brought on to this project. We are ready for the challenge and to bring our experience, knowledge and passion of home and garden to viewers around the world."

Publicly traded Demand Media (NYSE: %%DMD%%) of Santa Monica, Calif., owns and manages the eHow Home Channel, partnering with Smith to provide content.
