FDIC Says Total Deposits Up For Arkansas Lenders Since 2010

Total deposits held by Arkansas lenders increased nearly 2.2 percent since last year, according to data released today by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

A census of 145 lenders with a physical presence in the state revealed total deposits of nearly $52 billion as of June 30, compared to about $50.8 billion for the same period in 2010.

Arvest Bank of Fayetteville, owned by the Walton family’s Arvest Bank Group Inc., accounted for a 10.7 percent market share of the state’s deposits, up from 9.5 percent in 2010.

The Arkansas operations of Regions Financial Corp. of Birmingham, Ala., tallied an 8.1 percent market share, $4.2 billion compared to Arvest’s nearly $5.6 billion leading total. Regions held an 8.7 percent stake in 2010.

Bank of America Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., followed at third with a nearly 6.5 percent share of the state’s deposits, a slight increase over 2010.

Rounding out the top 10 deposit-based market shares are First Security Bancorp’s First Security Bank of Searcy, more than 5.8 percent; the eight bank’s owned by Pine Bluff’s Simmons First National Corp., 4.8 percent; Jonesboro’s Liberty Bank of Arkansas, nearly 3.9 percent; the Arkansas operations of BancorpSouth Inc. of Tupelo, Miss., nearly 3.6 percent; Home BancShares Inc.’s Centennial Bank of Conway, 3.3 percent; Little Rock’s Bank of the Ozarks, 3.1 percent; and Fort Smith’s First Bank Corp., nearly 2.4 percent.

The only change in the running order from 2010 was Liberty Bank moving ahead of BancorpSouth.
