The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation on Wednesday named David Boling, a chief of staff to former U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder, as its deputy executive director.

The nonprofit Mansfield Foundation bills itself as an organization "that promotes understanding and cooperation in U.S.-Asia relations."

"David brings to the foundation a wealth of expertise drawn from his work with Asia, Capitol Hill and as a former Mansfield Fellow," the foundation's chairman, former U.S. Vice President Walter F. Mondale, said in a news release.

"His unique experience in politics, the law and Japan will benefit and advance the Foundation's programs -- particularly the Mike Mansfield Fellowship Program -- at a time when U.S.-Japan cooperation is closer and more critical than ever."

The organization said Boling will "provide counsel and strategic advice" to its executive director, Gordon Flake. Boling will be director of the Mike Mansfield Fellowship Program, a congressionally-mandated professional exchange for mid-level U.S. government employees. Boling participated in fellowship program from 1999-2001 as a representative of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was a trial attorney in the Antitrust Division.

In 2010, Boling unsuccessfully sought the Democratic Party nomination for Arkansas' Second Congressional District.

Since running for U.S. Senate, Boling has been senior policy and legal analyst at the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement, part of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He was previously counsel for the Little Rock law firm of Mitchell Williams PLLC and adjunct professor of law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law.

Boling has also written guest commentary columns for Arkansas Business.

The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation is a 501(C)3 organization that has offices in Washington, D.C.; Tokyo; and Missoula, Montana.
