Windstream Corp. of Little Rock said Monday that it has completed an expansion of its Hosted Solutions data center in Boston. The center, in the city's Charlestown neighborhood, doubled in size to 25,000 SF.

The expansion is part of Windstream's strategy to grow its cloud computing and managed services business.

Windstream is also developing a data center in Little Rock; the city approved bonds for the project on May 3. In April, the company announced the completion of another data center in Charlotte, N.C.

Windstream also manages and operates data centers in Raleigh and Cary, N.C.; Newton, Iowa; State College and Ephrata, Pa.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Atlanta; Nashville, Tenn.; and Brookfield, Wis., according to a news release.

Kip Turco, senior vice president of data center operations for Windstream Hosted Solutions, said in the news release that the Boston data center is one of several the company is expanding, and that Windstream expects to extend its footprint into other markets soon.

The telecommunications company (NYSE: WIN) purchased Hosted Solutions of Raleigh, N.C., in November for $310 million, part of a push into data backup, managed hosting and cloud computing services.

Hosted Solutions is a regional data center and managed hosting provider focused on the enterprise-class Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) business.
