Science Applications International Corp. of McLean, Va., and the University of Arkansas were the big winners Monday at the 2011 Arkansas Governor’s Work-Life Balance Awards held at The Peabody Little Rock.

Presented by the Arkansas Department of Human Services, the Work-Life Awards recognize Arkansas employers who establish and provide resources that support employees in balancing the needs of both work and family.

The awards program, created in 2002, recognized the following winners:

  • Small Company Arkansas Power Electronics International Inc.
  • Medium Company – For Profit Transamerica Worksite Marketing
  • Large Company – For Profit Science Applications International Corp.

Gov. Mike Beebe said companies that are supportive of workers’ family needs see more productivity.

"I applaud these companies for finding innovative ways — many of which are low-cost — to help their employees find a balance between the demands of the workplace and the demands of the home front," he said.

Ellen Galinsky, president and co-founder of Families and Work Institute, presented the keynote address at the event. Galinsky co-directed the "National Study of the Changing Workforce," a comprehensive national study.
