KTHV's Dale Remy Dies Unexpectedly at 52

When Dale Remy, the general sales manager of KTHV-TV, Channel 11, wanted to treat his staffers at the CBS affiliate, he arranged for them to spend the afternoon of Friday, March 12, playing hooky at Oaklawn Park. He returned home to Sherwood that night and gushed to his wife, Susie, about the great day with his great staff. A year after moving to this job in Little Rock, he felt settled and content.

Overnight on that Saturday, Remy complained to his wife of shortness of breath. She administered CPR. Paramedics came, transported him. At some point in the dark hours of Sunday morning, Dale Remy died. He was 52, and is survived by his wife and two adult daughters, Thea and Malori.

"It was all very sudden," said Larry Audas, the station's president and general manager. He said colleagues would remember Remy "as a bigger-than-life sort of fellow, with big humor, a big conversationalist and a guy with some big Texas boots."

Remy, a Michigan native, was educated at the University of Florida and brought a long history of sales-side broadcast experience to KTHV, including a long stint at sister stations in Corpus Christi and Laredo, Texas.

It fit Remy that his last day of work was spent celebrating those around him. "I'm almost certain that will be the best and lasting memory that his folks will have of him," Audas said.
