National Bank of Arkansas Names New President

Did you know there is a new president at North Little Rock’s National Bank of Arkansas?

James S. Renk, who arrived as executive vice president a few months ago, was named president effective May 4. Renk replaces Mike Mathes, who held the post for several years after coming from Conway as the market president for U.S. Bank.

Renk worked with the North Little Rock operations of Arvest Bank for eight years before moving over to NBA. A three-year stint with Regions Bank and work in the Houston banking market preceded that.

The change at NBA got us wondering what happened to Al Harkins, the bank’s long-time CEO, until his departure last year.

We understand that Harkins is spending a lot of his time these days out in Colorado.

He’s not vacationing though.

Harkins is doing consulting work for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in connection with New Frontier Bank in Greeley. Regulators closed that $2 billion-asset lender on April 10.

New Frontier recorded an $11.3 million loss at year-end 2008. The FDIC issued a cease and desist order for “unsafe” and “unsound” banking practices last year.
