The Arkansas Public Service Commission has approved CenterPoint Energy Arkansas Gas Co.'s request to raise rates, but not as much as it first sought.

Under the settlement agreement by the PSC, CenterPoint's overall rates will rise by 4.1 percent a year, or $20 million, based on the approved return on equity of 9.65 percent, the PSC's news release said on Thursday.

A typical residential customer will see his monthly bill rise $3.24 a month, or 4.6 percent.

"CenterPoint's originally requested a $51 million annual increase - which would have increased rates by 11.03 percent," the news release said.

CenterPoint Energy Arkansas provides natural gas service to more than 424,000 customers in Arkansas.
