Native Arkansan Chuck Maulden has been named news director at KTHV-TV, Channel 11, and will be on the job beginning Oct. 22.

Maulden, who graduated from Bryant High School and Arkansas State University, is currently the director of news operations for NBC affiliate KSDK-TV, Channel 5, in St. Louis. He is replacing news veteran Mark Raines, who left the Gannett Co.-owned CBS affiliate last July for a public relations gig with Chesapeake Energy Corp. of Oklahoma City.

"Chuck is an exceptional journalist with extensive newsroom and field experience covering major news events and daily stories," said Larry Audas, president and general manager at KTHV. "His genuine interest in the people of Arkansas will be apparent in his efforts to keep them informed and connected with the THV family."

Audas said since Raines' announcement last summer the station had gotten inquiries about the position from "coast-to-coast," but that "Chuck is the right man at the right time" for KTHV.

"I am thrilled to return home and join the team at Today's THV," Maulden said in a news release. "THV has built an extremely strong and versatile news operation since I left Little Rock. This is an exciting opportunity and I'm looking forward to it."

Maulden previously worked at newsrooms in Jonesboro, Little Rock, Kalamazoo and Birmingham before St. Louis, where he has been for the past 10 years.
