Dillard's January Same-store Sales Down 3 Percent

Dillard's Inc. of Little Rock on Thursday reported that January same-store sales dropped 3 percent, with total sales dropping 2 percent.
The department store chain reported total sales of $623.5 million for the five-week period ending Feb. 3. Total sales for the comparable period last year, which had one less week and ended on Jan. 28, 2006, were $507.6 million.
Total sales for the 53 weeks ended Feb. 3 were $7.6 billion. Total sales for the 52 weeks ended Jan. 28, 2006, were $7.56 billion. Sales for the 52 weeks ended Jan. 27 declined 1 percent compared to the 52 weeks ended Jan. 28, 2006, in both total and comparable stores.
During the month, sales in Dillard's western region were above average company performance, while sales in the central region were consistent with trend. Sales in the east were below trend.
Sales of apparel were slightly above the average company trend for the month, but sales of cosmetics and other merchandise were below trend, Dillard's said.
Shares of Dillard's (NYSE: DDS) were trading at $35.26 on Thursday after closing at $34.90 on Wednesday.
Dillard's has more than 300 stores in 29 states.
