KLRT News Director Leaving for Texas

The driving force behind KLRT-TV, Channel 16's "Fox News at Nine" incarnation is leaving his post after helping start the one-hour newscast nearly three years ago.
Michael Fabac, news director at the station, will finish his duties in Little Rock by Jan. 5 before heading to KNAX-TV, Channel 36, the NBC affiliate in Austin, Texas.
"I knew there'd be a day when someone came courting him to another station," said Chuck Spohn, Little Rock general manager for Clear Channel. "We talked about what was in the best interest of his family and his career, and this looks to be a good move for him."
One might immediately read into Fabac's departure that he's the first to jump ship following Clear Channel's recent announcement that its central Arkansas television stations — Fox affiliate KLRT-TV, Channel 16, and CW affiliate KASN-TV, Channel 38 — will be sold along with 448 national radio stations and its complete 42-station television arm.
Spohn assured us that's not the case, as he said Fabac's move was "inevitable considering his accomplishments and work ethic" and "coincidental" considering the time frame. Spohn said the two stations didn't plan on making any big changes because of the sale, but nothing official has yet been passed down from Clear Channel headquarters in San Antonio.
A national search is underway to find Fabac's replacement, Spohn said.
