Jim House, president and CEO of USAble Life in Little Rock, is retiring at the end of June.

House, an Arkansas Business Power List honoree, started his career with Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield in 1967 and was promoted to his current position in 1985.

Jason Mann, a former ABCBS regional sales manager, is expected to succeed House, though USAble's board still has to confirm him next month.

USAble is one of the state's largest insurers. According to House, 24 percent of Arkansas' work force is insured by the company, which is owned by several Blue Cross & Blue Shield concerns.

ABCBS and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Florida have a 70 percent stake in USAble through their holding company, Life & Specialty Ventures LLC.

Hawaii Medical Service Association (a Blue Cross Blue Shield outfit), North Carolina Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Tennessee each have a 10 percent stake in USAble.
