Stephens Insurance in Dallas Looks to Expand

The reinvigorated Stephens Insurance Services opened an office in Dallas a few months back, and President Marty Rhodes confirms that he's negotiating to buy an existing agency in the Big D to pump up that operation.

He's also in talks with another Arkansas agency and yet another agency in yet another state.

"Where Stephens (Inc.) has a presence, it just makes sense," he said.

Rhodes, you'll recall, sold his Rhodes & Associates Inc. and related companies to publicly traded Brown & Brown Inc. of Tampa, Fla., back in 2002.

In January 2005, he was named president and CEO of the Stephens Group's sleeping insurance subsidiary.

In the past year, SIS has acquired The Kane Agency of Little Rock and Fayetteville and entered the property and casualty market by luring Bill Cobb and his book of business away from Insurance Center Inc. of Little Rock.
