Turn Lanes Being Added to Cantrell Road

Traffic on Little Rock's Cantrell Road (aka Highway 10) should become less congested. That's the good news.

The bad news is that it won't be for another year, and congestion will actually get a little worse before it gets better.

The Arkansas State Highway & Transportation Department has contracted Little Rock's Township Builders Inc. to put a continuous left turn lane on Cantrell from Mississippi Street to Foxcroft Road. The project, which will stretch one-third of a mile, comes in at just over $1 million, according to department spokesman Randy Ort.

Township Builders, however, won't be on-site until this fall at the earliest. The work under way in that area now is being done by utility companies, which have to relocate some of their infrastructure.

Ort said road construction would not be complete until fall 2006 and that traffic could get a bit more squeezed while work is being done, but at least those left lanes will be freed up when it's finished.
