Construction of the 14-story, $25 million First Security Center in Little Rock's River Market District began Friday with a ceremonial smack of a wrecking ball to a vacant brick building that will be razed for the new structure.

The 180,000-SF center is scheduled for completion in September 2004.

Once completed, it will house a 120-room Marriott Courtyard Hotel, Crews & Associates Corp. offices, a First Security Bank branch and 24 condominiums starting from $280,000.

First Security Bancorp of Searcy has partnered with Moses Tucker Investments LLC of Little Rock and McKibbon Brothers Inc. of Gainesville, Ga., to build the structure at the southwest corner of Clinton Avenue and Sherman Street.

"This is a very unique project for Arkansas that will continue to develop the big-city atmosphere of the River Market District," Reynie Rutledge, chairman and CEO of First Security, said in a news release.
