Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies Inc. of Springdale said this week that a fire at its Junction, Texas, factory was started when equipment on a power pole next to the factory exploded, setting fire to a raw material storage area.

No one was injured in the fire, which broke out early last Friday morning and shut down the factory.

AERT said high winds quickly spread the fire to the interior of the manufacturing building. Security and maintenance personnel, along with numerous local fire departments, brought the fire under control later in the day, the company said.

"A large portion of the facility suffered substantial structural and electrical systems damage. A warehouse and adjoining manufacturing building was severely damaged," the company said.

Texas State Fire Marshal investigators have initially ruled the fire accidental.

The Junction plant remains closed while the company and its insurance group evaluate the situation.

The company has another plant at Springdale.

Shares of AERT (Nasdaq: AERTA), which makes wood composite products, were trading at $1.21 on Thursday after closing at $1.13 on Wednesday.
