Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies Inc. of Springdale said Friday that a fire caused "major damage" to its Junction, Texas, factory's raw materials area, but no one was injured.

The company, which makes wood composite products, said the fire might have been started by an electrical transformer and was fanned by 40 mph winds.

AERT said the factory has been shut down pending an evaluation by plant and safety engineers. The company offered no estimates on the cost of the damage.

In January, a small fire in a machine disrupted operations at an AERT plant in Springdale. A mechanical failure inside the machine caused a spark that ignited the material in the machine. An automatic fire control system extinguished the fire, which the company said caused "a few hundred dollars damage."

Shares of AERT (Nasdaq: AERTA) were trading at $1.14 on Friday after closing at $1.25 on Thursday.
