Governor Honors Family-friendly Businesses With Awards

Baptist Health, the state's largest not-for-profit health care organization, was the overall winner of the first Arkansas Governor's Family Friendly Employer Award.

The awards, which honor employers for establishing and providing resources that support employees in balancing the needs of both work and family, were handed out at a breakfast ceremony Wednesday at The Peabody Little Rock.

Speakers at the event included Gov. Mike Huckabee, who handed out the awards, Entergy Arkansas CEO Hugh McDonald, who spoke on early childhood education, and Earl Maxwell, a partner at Maxwell Locke & Ritter of Austin, Texas, who talked about how he implemented family-friendly policies in his small accounting firm.

Baptist Health was the competition's overall winner as well as the gold winner in the large employer category. Other winners in the category were:

• Silver award — Acxiom Corp., an information management services company.

• Bronze award — The University of Arkansas.

Among medium employers, the winners were:

• Gold award — DaySpring Cards of Siloam Springs, which makes inspirational greeting cards.

• Silver award — USAble Life Insurance, a Little Rock insurance services provider.

• Silver award — Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care, a nonprofit that aims to improve the quality of health care in Arkansas.

• Bronze award — Rich Mountain Community College of Mena.

• Bronze award — First National Bank of Sharp County in Ash Flat.

Among small employers, the winners were:

• Gold award — I.C.E. Inc. of Little Rock

• Silver award — Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Springdale, which provides scholarships to single parents.

• Bronze award — Tripp's Total Travel Management of Fort Smith, a travel management company.
