The American Heart Association, volunteers and some Arkansas CEOs will meet Tuesday to kick off this year's American Heart Walk.

The American Heart Walk is one the association's biggest fund-raisers, the proceeds of which go to fight cardiovascular disease. It is scheduled for May 4 at the North Little Rock Landing. Last year's walk raised $220,000.

The 2002 Heart Walk CEO Breakfast will be hosted by Cynthia Brinkley, president of SBC Southwestern Bell-Arkansas and volunteer chair of the Central Arkansas Heart Walk. It is scheduled to take place at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce building.

The invitation-only event is for presidents and CEOs of the region's top corporations and organizations, the association said. Among those scheduled to attend are William H. Sutton of Friday Eldredge and Clark; Mike Flynn of Alltel Corp.; Stan Bailey of Superior Bank; Dr. Rich Kennedy of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences; Dale Nicholson of KATV-TV, Channel 7; Gus Vratsinas of Vratsinas Construction; and Bill Dillard III of Dillard's Inc.

The heart association said it raised about $470,000 at its annual Heart Ball fund-raiser, which took place Feb. 9. The total makes the ball one of the largest single fund-raisers in the state, according to Lannie Cox, of the local chapter of the heart association.
