Dreams of an SEC division title, a conference championship, a BCS bowl, even a national championship, are still in place at Arkansas.

With a Heisman Trophy contender at quarterback in Tyler Wilson and a number of pro-caliber athletes on both sides of the ball, expectations haven’t been diminished much by the Bobby Petrino scandal and sudden coaching change that brought in John L. Smith on a 10-month contract.

What a long way the Razorbacks have come since leaving the familiar confines of the SWC for the SEC in 1992.

Dave Matter, writing in the Columbia Daily Tribune, resurrects some memories of Arkansas’ stumbling, baby steps after entering the SEC and perhaps forecasts what’s in store for new SEC member Missouri in the process.

Warning: The Citadel and Jack Crowe are mentioned. Squeamish fans may want to avert their eyes.
