Central Arkansas quarterback Wynrick Smothers knows all too well what it's like to be the back-up. In high school outside of New Orleans, he was No. 2 on the roster behind LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson. For the past three years, he's sat behind Nathan Dick at UCA.
Bears fans caught a glimpse of the future last season when Smothers started a game after Dick suffered a concussion. For 2012, it definitely seems like Smothers is ready for being No. 1. Here's more from inside ArkansasSports360.com's 2012 Football Preview.
With a strong set of receivers, Smothers is ready to see what the Bears can accomplish this season.
“I’m looking forward to it — going out there and having fun and playing to the best of my ability,” he said. “I just want us all to come together and have a really good season.”
Also in this season's preview:
• KABZ-FM, 103.7 The Buzz Program Director Justin Acri (who also moonlights as Color Commentator on UCA football broadcasts) talks with Head Football Coach Clint Conque about how the Southland Conference Championship is within reach for the Bears.
• Conque also talks about the Bears beginning their season at Ole Miss and what a fine time everyone will have getting to meet up with Hugh Freeze again after last season's match against Arkansas State.
