Wherever John L. Smith goes the next few months he’ll face questions about his long-term future at Arkansas.

Smith signed a 10-month contract in April to take over the Razorback program. There are no guarantees beyond the 2012 season.

Naturally, his long-term future is a question for reporters. It came up at SEC Media Days last week and again while he was making the rounds at ESPN on Tuesday.

Here’s what Smith had to say on ESPNU when asked if there was a win total he could reach that would guarantee athletic director Jeff Long give him the position going forward:

“We have not set the bar at least to my knowledge. Unless it’s in Jeff’s mind where that bar is set, I’m not aware of that. The only thing that we’ll do, we’ll carry on a conversation about it without a doubt. Again, the way I look at it, the way our staff looks at it and hopefully the way this football team and program look at it is we’re going to give Jeff no other choice except to have to bring us back.”

Long has said there is no specific win total that Smith and the Razorbacks need to reach. Smith, current assistants and outside options are all being evaluated by Long.

Here are highlights for the remainder of Smith's schedule at ESPN today:

1:05 pm — College Football Live (Airs at 2:30 p.m.)
1:40 pm — SportsCenter (Live)
