SEC Defenses

Nervous about Razorbacks Alonzo Highsmith and Tank Wright making early exits to the sidelines after some tough plays in practice? At least you're not the only one in the SEC sweating the depth chart.

Georgia had its first practice in pads yesterday, albeit without six players who are either out with injury or illness. Abry Jones is the biggest Bulldog to go down – the defensive end is out with a left knee contusion. More details of the injuries aren't being offered by head coach Mark Richt who says that the new Georgia policy of staying mum on how long some of his players will be out and how serious their injuries were wasn't his idea.

And Hugh Freeze is watching his troops fall at Ole Miss, including defensive back Chuck Sawyer, one of the few bright spots of Houston Nutt's final season. Sawyer, who had 70 tackles and four interceptions in 2011, could be sidelined for a month after tearing a quadriceps muscle during practice. Which leg Sawyer injured, Freeze wouldn't say.
