Arkansas State System President Dr. Chuck Welch will be in charge of the search for a new athletic director at ASU.

Welch outlined to ArkansasSports360.com what he is looking for in a replacement for Dr. Dean Lee. ASU reassigned Lee to an administrative position within the university on Tuesday after 10 years with the Red Wolves athletic department.

“We’re just looking for an individual that has significant experience in Division I,” Welch said. “We want an individual who has been a part of a program that has seen growth and development both from a funding standpoint as well as facilties standpoint. We want an individual that understands what it takes to move a program to the next level, if you will. … Someone that is going to be very strong in fundraising and community development and those kinds of things. We’re just going to really be looking for someone who has been a part of a major Division I program that understands what it will take for us to get where we want to get.”

Welch said the job should be an attractive one for candidates.

“We think there will be significant interest in this job because of the growth we’ve already had, because of the commitment we have to continue to build our program," he said.
