Arkansas has hired former Washington defensive coordinator Nick Holt as its on-campus recruiting coordinator.

Holt has previously worked with John L. Smith at Idaho and Louisville. Holt, who has also worked at Southern Cal in his nearly 30-year career, is filling a position once held by Jessica Dorrell, the mistress of former coach Bobby Petrino. A Petrino motorcycle wreck in April with Dorrell as a passenger set in motion the coach's firing at Arkansas.

What a novel concept: hiring somebody that knows college football to be on your college football staff.

Here's what Smith has to say about Holt:

“Nick Holt is a tremendous addition to our program,” Coach Smith said. “I’ve known Nick a long time, and he has been part of my staff previously so he knows our expectations. He will be able to come in here and fit well within our staff, and he brings a tremendous amount of football knowledge. He is great interacting with student-athletes and truly wants to put them in a position to succeed. I have no doubt Nick will be successful in this role for us.”

Imagine if a hire like this had been made to begin with...
