Wide receiver Earl Lucas has been dismissed from the Arkansas State football team.
Red Wolves Coach Gus Malzahn announced the dismissal Sunday. Lucas was kicked off the team less than 48 hours after Malzahn suspended defensive back Tres Houston for the season.
“I am disappointed to have to dismiss Earl Lucas from the football team and we wish him nothing but the best in the future,” said Malzahn. “I’m very proud of how hard our team has been working to prepare for the upcoming season, and our full focus moving forward will be on our first game this week.”
ASU dismissed running back Michael Dyer last month. Dyer is expected to attend Arkansas Baptist in Little Rock this fall.
Lucas, a 5-foot-9, 157-pound sophomore, had 20 catches for 225 yards last season. He is from Prattville, Ala.
ASU opens the season Saturday at No. 5 Oregon.
